Cow
Organic milk, four steps, birth to toddler.
HiPP German is the original, the range HiPP has made at home in Bavaria for generations. One idea runs through every box: stay as close as possible to the gold standard, breast milk. It comes in three lines, so there is a German answer for almost every baby.
HiPP German Cow is the classic. 100% organic milk, the full COMBIOTIK blend of prebiotics, probiotics, and Metafolin, the same natural folate a mother's milk contains. Four steps from Stage PRE through Stage 3.
HiPP HA is for sensitive tummies. The milk protein is broken down into much smaller pieces, so part of the digestive work is done in advance. Three stages, and COMBIOTIK and Metafolin stay on board.
HiPP Comfort and Anti-Reflux are the problem solvers. One is built for colic, gas and constipation, the other for babies who bring their milk back up. Both start from birth. Consult with your pediatrician before introducing or switching formula.
Behind all three stands HiPP itself: more than 60 years of formula expertise, up to 260 quality checks on every batch, and organic farming that goes beyond what the law asks. All made in Germany, and every label translated into English for you.
Shop by what your baby needs
All three come out of the same HiPP ‘kitchen’: with probiotics, Metafolin, and HiPP's testing behind every box. The cow, HA and comfort line also contain prebiotics. What differs is the protein, the carbohydrate and the texture, so the choice comes down to your baby's tummy.
Organic milk, four steps, birth to toddler.
Protein broken down in advance, three stages.
Built for colic and gas, or for spit-up.
Breast milk carries the building blocks that steer healthy development, and HiPP develops its recipes against that standard. At the heart sits COMBIOTIK®, pioneered more than 15 years ago. It has two halves.
The prebiotic half is GOS, short for galacto-oligosaccharides. These are soft fibers made from organic lactose. Their job is simple: feed the good bacteria already living in your baby's gut.
The probiotic half is a natural lactic acid culture, Limosilactobacillus fermentum. It was originally isolated from human breast milk. That probiotic culture is what makes a recipe COMBIOTIK, not just organic. The Cow and HA boxes carry the COMBIOTIK name. Comfort has both halves as well, and Anti-Reflux carries the cultures with natural locust bean gum in place of the GOS fibers.

Folate drives cell division and healthy growth. It is one of the most important nutrients in any infant formula.
Most formulas use synthetic folic acid. A baby's body has to activate it before it can be absorbed. HiPP uses Metafolin®, or calcium L-methylfolate, a premium natural folate in the same bioactive form found in breast milk.
Every little body can absorb the Metafolin® right away. It is one of the quiet details that separates HiPP from nearly every other formula on the shelf, and it runs right across the German range.
Breast milk is the model for every ingredient choice. Alongside the two key ingredients above, this is what completes the recipe.
The protein foundation of the Cow range, from cows raised under EU organic rules with as much time outdoors on pasture as possible.
A natural, easy-to-digest carbohydrate, and organic right across the Cow range. No corn syrup, ever.
Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids support brain and eye development from day one.
No GMOs, no added sugar, no corn syrup, no soy.
EU Organic is the legal baseline: organic feed, no GMOs, EU animal welfare rules. The HiPP Bio seal goes beyond that and covers purity checks that go well beyond it.
Every production run passes up to 260 safety checks before release from quarantine. HiPP's laboratory can test for more than 1,200 parameters.
Produced in a climate-neutral HiPP plant, which is better for the environment. The cows spend as much time outdoors on pasture as possible.

Behind the boxes is a family business that is now 125 years old, still run by the founders' great-grandson. A longer read on HiPP the company.
In 1899, Joseph and Maria Hipp, a baker's family in Pfaffenhofen, needed something to feed their newborn twins. Joseph made a rusk flour. Word got around, other parents asked for it, and a baby food company was born.
Long before it was fashionable, Georg and Anny Hipp turned the family farm over to organic growing, against the farming conventions of the day. Their motto still runs the company: the best for nature, the best from nature.
HiPP works with more than 8,000 organic farmers across around 80,000 hectares and processes roughly 150,000 tonnes of organic ingredients a year. That makes it one of the biggest organic processors in the world.
HiPP has put more than 120 million euros into its infant milk factory in Herford since 2016, making it one of the most modern in Europe. That site has been making baby milk since 1950.
This is the recipe HiPP built its name on, in 600 g (21.2 oz) boxes with a resealable inner bag. Certified EU Organic with the HiPP Bio seal, COMBIOTIK and Metafolin at every step, and no added sugar, corn syrup or soy anywhere in the line.
The German range starts with a choice rather than a stage. Stage PRE keeps lactose as its only carbohydrate, exactly like breast milk, so the bottle stays thin and you can feed on demand. Stage 1 is also from birth, but adds a little mild organic starch, which makes it creamier and more filling. Hungry baby who wakes early? Stage 1. Closest to breast milk? PRE.
From six months, Stage 2 lifts the iron as the store your baby was born with runs low. Stage 3 from ten months holds that iron and adds calcium for bones busy standing and climbing. The German line finishes at Stage 3, so most families move on to HiPP Dutch Junior from two years.
| Formula | Bottles of 100 ml | What makes it different |
|---|---|---|
| Stage PRE from birth | 46 | Lactose only, no starch, feed on demand. Iron 0.50 mg |
| Stage 1 from birth | 46 | Adds mild organic starch, creamier and more filling. Iron 0.60 mg |
| Stage 2 from 6 months | 44 | Iron jumps to 1.0 mg, DHA 13.6 mg |
| Stage 3 from 10 months | 44 | Iron stays 1.0 mg, calcium 77 mg for busy bones |
HA is the answer for mild cow's milk sensitivity, or when allergies run in the family. The whey protein is broken down into much smaller pieces, so a good part of the digestive work is done before the bottle is even mixed. The full COMBIOTIK blend and Metafolin stay on board, in the same 600 g boxes.
Three steps mirror the Cow line. HA Stage PRE is lactose only and stays thin, HA Stage 1 is the everyday choice from birth, and from six months HA Stage 2 takes over as part of a mixed diet.
To be clear about what HA is: a gentler everyday formula, suitable for sensitive tummies. It is not a medical treatment for a confirmed cow's milk protein allergy. Please consult with your pediatrician in this case. Breaking the protein down counts as extra processing, which is why the HA line cannot carry the organic seal even though the ingredients meet the same non-GMO standard.
| Formula | Bottles of 100 ml | What makes it different |
|---|---|---|
| HA Stage PRE from birth | 46 | Lactose only, no starch. Iron 0.50 mg |
| HA Stage 1 from birth | 46 | Iron 0.60 mg, DHA and ARA 13.2 mg each |
| HA Stage 2 from 6 months | 44 | Iron 1.0 mg, DHA 13.6 mg |
These two are not stages. Each is a single recipe from birth, built to help with specific problems, and both are best started in conversation with your pediatrician.
HiPP Comfort is for colic, gas and constipation. The lactose is cut right down, to about 2.7 g per 100 ml against roughly 7 g in a standard recipe, the whey protein is gently broken up, and a beta-palmitate fat structured like the fat in breast milk helps keep stools soft. Softer, more frequent stools are normal on Comfort rather than a sign something is wrong.
HiPP Anti-Reflux is for babies who bring their milk back up. Natural locust bean gum thickens the bottle so it is more likely to stay down. One preparation quirk matters: mix as usual, then let the bottle stand for 7 minutes to thicken, shake again, and feed. Weighing the two up, or comparing against HA? Our hypoallergenic vs anti-reflux guide lays it out.
Neither is a treatment for a confirmed cow's milk protein allergy, and neither carries the organic seal, because reducing lactose and adding a thickener both count as extra processing.
| Formula | Bottles of 100 ml | What makes it different |
|---|---|---|
| Comfort from birth | 46 | Lactose cut to about 2.7 g, hydrolyzed whey, beta-palmitate fat |
| Anti-Reflux from birth | 46 | Thickened with natural locust bean gum. Iron 0.70 mg |
German Stage 1 adds organic starch, which makes it creamier and more filling, in 600 g boxes. Dutch keeps lactose as the only carbohydrate in a bigger 800 g can, usually at better value per gram, and it carries the toddler stage the German line does not.
The UK line has full English labeling, which some parents prefer. It carries prebiotics only, with no probiotics, so it is not COMBIOTIK. If the cultures matter to you, German is the one.
Different problems, different fixes. Comfort reworks the lactose, protein and fat for colic, gas and constipation. Anti-Reflux leaves the recipe closer to standard and thickens it so milk stays down.
EU rules ban corn syrup solids, require DHA, and stage the iron by age. Parents who switch usually notice a shorter ingredient list and a calmer tummy.
Wondering whether a European formula is the right call for a US baby? Our guide on whether HiPP is safe and suitable in the US answers exactly that.
This is the range HiPP has made at home the longest, and the one German parents have used for generations.
Few brands cover colic, reflux and sensitivity this thoroughly without leaving the family you already trust.
Parents read the ingredient list once and stop worrying.
If one recipe does not suit, the next one is a step sideways rather than a whole new brand.
US parents choose European formula for three reasons: stricter ingredient standards, tighter safety oversight, and a track record going back generations.
EU baby formula follows strict European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) rules, including required DHA, staged iron by age, and no corn syrup solids. Those rules are a higher bar than FDA formula standards and apply to every EU and UK formula we carry. Read more in our EU vs US formula guide.
Batch-level testing is standard across European organic brands. They keep retained samples of every batch for years, and they release a batch only after it passes every checkpoint.
EU-certified organic formulas contain no GMOs, artificial flavors, or artificial preservatives, with strict limits on pesticides and heavy metals.
Europe has produced organic baby formula for most of a century. HiPP alone has more than 60 years of formula experience.

Stage PRE and Stage 1 both start from birth. Stage 2 from 6 months. Stage 3 from 10 months. PRE and Stage 1 differ in texture rather than age, so see the next question. Stages 2 and 3 are part of a mixed diet once solids begin. The German range stops at Stage 3, and most families move to HiPP Dutch Junior from two years.
Age is the same, both from birth. PRE has lactose as its only carbohydrate, just like breast milk, so it stays thin and you can feed it on demand. Stage 1 adds a small amount of mild organic starch, which makes the bottle creamier and more filling. Many parents start on PRE and move to Stage 1 if their baby seems hungry again quickly.
Cow suits most babies. HA is for mild cow's milk sensitivity or allergies in the family, with the protein already broken down. Comfort and Anti-Reflux are specialty recipes for a specific problem: colic, gas and constipation for Comfort, frequent spit-up for Anti-Reflux. None of them treats a confirmed cow's milk protein allergy. Start those two with your pediatrician, and our Formula Finder narrows it down in a minute.
All are made by HiPP in Germany. German comes in 600 g boxes, and from Stage 1 it carries mild organic starch for a creamier, more filling bottle. Dutch comes in bigger 800 g cans and keeps lactose as the only carbohydrate right through, usually at better value per gram. The UK line has English labeling but prebiotics only, with no probiotics, so it is not COMBIOTIK. Full detail in our HiPP comparison guide.
They solve different problems. Comfort is for colic, gas and constipation: the lactose is cut right down, the whey protein is broken up, and a beta-palmitate fat structured like the fat in breast milk helps stools stay soft. Anti-Reflux is for babies who bring milk back up: natural locust bean gum thickens the bottle so it stays down. Read our hypoallergenic vs anti-reflux guide if you are weighing them up.
Almost the same as any HiPP bottle, with one extra step. Mix as usual, then let the bottle stand for 7 minutes so the locust bean gum can thicken, give it another shake, and feed. Skipping the wait is the single most common reason parents think it is not working.
The Cow range, Stage PRE through Stage 3, is certified EU Organic and carries the HiPP Bio seal for extra purity testing. The HA, Comfort and Anti-Reflux recipes cannot carry the seal, for technical reasons rather than quality ones: breaking down protein, reducing lactose and adding a thickener all count as extra processing. They use the same non-GMO ingredients and pass the same HiPP quality checks.
COMBIOTIK is HiPP's pairing of prebiotics and probiotics. The prebiotics are GOS fibers made from organic lactose, and the probiotic is a natural lactic acid culture originally isolated from human breast milk. The Cow and HA boxes are branded COMBIOTIK. Comfort carries both halves too, and Anti-Reflux carries the cultures with natural locust bean gum in place of the GOS fibers.
Calcium L-methylfolate, the bioactive form of folate also found in breast milk. Synthetic folic acid has to be activated by the body first. Metafolin is ready to absorb straight away. Read our blog to understand more about Metafolin.
Boil fresh water and let it cool to drinking temperature, about 37°C or 98°F, before adding the powder. That protects the probiotics (live cultures). Add level scoops, shake well, and check on your wrist. Please find the full English instructions of the label information here: instructions page.
No. HiPP takes its DHA from fish oil. Our vegetarian collection gathers the options that use algae DHA instead.
Go gradually. Swap one bottle a day, then add another every couple of days. Some babies take to it at once, others need a few days, and a small change in stool is normal. Talk to your pediatrician before you start.
HiPP baby formula is designed as a substitute for, or a supplement to, breastfeeding for healthy babies. Breast milk remains the optimal source of nutrition whenever it is possible.
Always consult your pediatrician before introducing or switching any formula. Every baby has unique nutritional needs, especially where there is any history of allergies, digestive issues, or feeding difficulties.
