Description
HiPP Anti-Reflux (HiPP AR) is a specialty formula for babies who spit up more than usual, from birth onward. It helps milk stay down, so feeds are calmer and more comfortable for your little one.
HiPP AR is the leading European anti-reflux formula available in the US. Its secret is a natural thickener, locust bean gum from the carob tree, which makes the formula especially creamy so it stays in the tummy instead of coming back up. Natural probiotic cultures look after the gut, DHA and ARA support brain and eyesight, and vitamin D supports the immune system. This clean recipe contains no added sugar, corn syrup, or soy.
This gentle specialty formula is crafted in Germany to the most stringent European quality standards and comes in a 600 g (21.2 oz) box with a resealable inner bag. The label is in German, so we translated the preparation instructions, feeding chart, and ingredient info into English here.
This formula is rated 4.9 stars by parents in our store. "No more reflux or spit-up two weeks into using this formula. Thank you!"

What Makes This Formula Special
Watching a little one struggle after a feed is hard. Frequent spit-up can steal sleep and turn every bottle into a worry. Spitting up happens because the muscle at the top of a baby's stomach is still immature so milk can flow back up. HiPP AR tackles that with one simple, natural idea.
Locust bean gum, a plant-based thickener from the carob tree, makes the prepared formula especially creamy. A creamier feed sits better in the stomach, which means fewer spit-ups and calmer moments after the bottle. The gum is also a natural plant fiber. One honest note: when switching to HiPP AR, stools can become a little softer, and that is normal.
One preparation step makes it all work. After mixing, let the bottle sit for 7 minutes, then shake it again before feeding. The thickener needs those minutes to do its job; feed too soon, and the formula will still be thin. Because the prepared feed is creamier, some babies also do better with a slightly larger nipple size.
Beyond the thickener, the recipe stays complete and gentle. The natural probiotic culture L. fermentum, originally found in breast milk, supports a healthy gut. HiPP also uses Metafolin® instead of ordinary folic acid. It is a natural premium folate, the same form found in breast milk, and it is directly available so every baby can use it right away. Vitamin C works alongside vitamin D for the immune system, and the protein comes from skim milk and whey.
Adding the thickener is extra processing, so the finished formula does not carry the EU Organic seal, the same as HiPP Comfort and HiPP HA. The ingredients still come from high-quality, non-GMO sources, and every batch runs through the same strict HiPP factory checks as the organic lines.
Please note: this is a specialty formula, not a standard infant formula, and not suitable for a confirmed or suspected cow's milk protein allergy. Use it in consultation with your pediatrician, and as long as the symptoms need it. You can find all our gentle options on our Specialty Formulas for Sensitive Tummies page.
Not sure which specialty path to choose? HiPP AR is for milk coming back up: spit-up and regurgitation. HiPP Comfort is for what stays inside and hurts: colic, gas, and constipation. And once the spitting settles, HiPP Dutch Stage 1 is the regular organic formula to return to.
Safety, Quality and Animal Welfare
Every batch goes through up to 260 safety checks before it leaves quarantine, from the raw materials to the finished box. HiPP tests far more residues than the law requires and only packs a batch if it meets HiPP's own tighter limits.
EU baby formula follows strict European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) rules, including required DHA and no corn syrup solids. Those rules are a higher bar than FDA formula standards and apply to all EU and UK formulas we carry. Read more in our EU vs US formula guide.
Why Parents Trust HiPP Anti-Reflux
Most families come to HiPP AR after a stretch of unhappy feeds, or because their pediatrician suggested a thickened formula. In our reviews, the relief is often fast and vivid. One parent wrote: "My baby hates tummy time and would scream every time I'd put him on his belly. The very first day we began HiPP, the projectile smelly spit-ups stopped, and he was smiling." Others mention the same pattern: "My baby barely ever spits up and has never had any gas issues with this formula."
