Description
HiPP German PRE HA COMBIOTIK is a hydrolyzed, hypoallergenic starter formula for newborns from birth. It can be used as the sole source of nutrition or alongside breastfeeding.
For families where allergies run close, those first weeks of feeding can feel like holding your breath. PRE HA is HiPP's gentlest starting point. The protein is broken down by 86 to 87% into tiny pieces a brand-new digestive system can handle with ease, which significantly aids in comfortable digestion for newborns with mild sensitivities. And because lactose is the only carbohydrate, the same that sweetens breast milk, the recipe stays as close to breast milk as a bottle can.
Prebiotics and probiotics settle the tummy from the first feed, DHA and ARA support brain and eyesight, and the taste is mild and clean. This recipe contains no added sugar, corn syrup, or soy.
This delicious hypoallergenic formula is crafted in Germany to the most stringent European quality standards and comes in a 600 g (21.2 oz) box with a resealable inner bag. The label is in German, so we translated the preparation instructions, feeding chart, and ingredient info into English here.
Parents often tell us this is the formula they reach for when they want the gentlest possible start, especially when allergies run in the family.

What Makes This Formula Special
PRE is the quiet hero of the HiPP range. In a standard formula the milk proteins stay whole, and for some newborns those large proteins are simply too much too soon. Here they arrive already split into small fragments, so part of the digestive work is done before the first sip. A young immune system is also far less likely to react to these tiny pieces than to whole, intact proteins. This proactive, gentle approach to feeding makes it a favorite among informed parents.
What sets PRE apart is its breast milk logic. With lactose as its only carbohydrate, it is the natural choice for combining bottle and breast in the early weeks, and just as suited to full bottle feeding from day one. The heart of the recipe is COMBIOTIK, prebiotics and probiotics working together for a healthy gut, with natural lactic acid cultures originally obtained from breast milk. HiPP also uses Metafolin® instead of synthetic folic acid, a natural premium folate the body can use right away. HiPP PRE HA also carries the DLG allergen-management seal, developed with the German Allergy and Asthma Association: independent confirmation that allergens are strictly controlled at every step of production, so allergy-aware families have one less thing to worry about.
Breaking the protein down is extra processing, so the finished formula does not carry the EU Organic seal. The other ingredients still come from high-quality, organic, non-GMO sources, and every batch runs through the same strict HiPP factory checks as the organic lines.
Please note: this is a specialty formula, not a medical treatment for a confirmed or suspected cow's milk protein allergy. Talk to your pediatrician before you start or switch. You can find all our gentle options on our specialty formulas for sensitive tummies page.
Within the HA family, HiPP German HA Stage 1 is the classic first-stage option, while PRE follows breast milk most closely with its lactose-only recipe. The same gentle recipe also comes as HiPP Dutch HA Stage 1 in a large 800 g can, usually the better value per gram. From 6 months, the HA line continues with HiPP Dutch HA Stage 2.
Safety, Quality and Animal Welfare
Every batch goes through up to 260 safety checks before it leaves quarantine, from raw materials to finished powder, in HiPP's climate-neutral plant, backed by more than 25 years of HiPP immune research. HiPP tests far more residues than the law requires and only packs a batch if it meets HiPP's own tighter limits.
EU baby formula follows strict European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) rules, including required DHA, staged iron by age, and no corn syrup solids. Those rules are a higher bar than FDA formula standards and apply to all EU and UK formulas we carry. Read more in our EU vs US formula guide.
Why Parents Trust HiPP PRE HA
Our support team hears it in emails almost weekly: parents who packed PRE HA in the hospital bag and never looked back. In our reviews, the same three things keep coming up: it mixes smoothly without clumps, the mild taste is accepted right alongside breast milk, and sensitive newborns actually keep it down. For families watching for early signs of sensitivity, that calm at feeding time is exactly why they stay with it.

How to make a bottle

- Wash your hands and sterilize the bottle, teat, and cap before use.
- Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool. Do not use water that is too hot, as this may damage the natural lactic acid cultures.
- Pour the desired amount of cooled boiled water into the sterilized bottle (see feeding chart).
- Add the correct number of leveled scoops using only the scoop provided (1 scoop per 30ml water). Scoop size: 4.3g.
- Close the bottle and shake several times vigorously until the powder is fully dissolved.
- Cool to drinking temperature, approximately 37°C (98°F). Test on the inside of your wrist before feeding.
Important Information:

- Always freshly prepare formula and do not prepare in advance. Use immediately, and discard leftovers at the end of the feed.
- Do not heat a bottle in a microwave, as hot spots may occur, which could cause scalding.
- All opened formulas should be used within 21 days. Never use a formula beyond its expiration date. The expiration date on the formula box/tin is listed according to European standards: day/month/year
- Avoid storing in areas of high heat or humidity.
