Becoming a parent is one of the most significant changes in your life! Having that little one in your life is magical but also overwhelming at times. They will take up most of your time, which is why lots of parents (moms and dads!) live day by day. It is hard to make everything work, especially when you are a single parent. Organic Formula Shop is committed to giving back and supporting Single Parents! In 2024, we will support two eligible students, each with a $2,000 reward toward their education.

Why a Single-Parent Scholarship?

As a Dutch company, with our much-appreciated customer/parent base in the U.S., we want to give back to their country and community. The Dutch government financially supports single parents in the Netherlands so that studying and childcare can be combined. We have learned that many students in the U.S. rely on available scholarships when their finances are insufficient. For single parents, time and financial resources often cause their inability to complete their education. A degree can significantly increase financial stability and the chance of a better future for a whole family. The Team of Organic Formula Shop feels this is an important cause we want to contribute to.
Briana Williams is an excellent example of a single mom who finished her study. Recently, she graduated from Harvard Law School and has mastered the art of multitasking.

The study from The Institute for Women’s Policy Research emphasizes the importance of higher education for single mothers:

“Earning a higher education is increasingly necessary for achieving family economic security. For single mothers, who are more likely to live in poverty than other women, earning post-secondary credentials can bring substantial benefits, from increased lifetime earnings and employment rates to better health outcomes and chances of success for their children. However, single-mother college students often face obstacles that complicate their ability to complete their educational programs. Just eight percent earn a degree within six years of enrolling, compared with roughly half of women in college who are not mothers. Greater investments in helping single mothers persist in college and graduate would benefit their families, communities, and society.’’

The Institute for Family Studies mentions:

“While the research on single fathers is limited, studies show that children in single-father families fare about as well as children in single-mother families on many outcomes.”

We get that being a single parent can make it very tough to focus on your own goals and aspirations. This is why Organic Formula shop wants to support those parents and make one part of their life slightly more manageable with our Scholarships.

What do we offer?

In a nutshell, the Single Parent Scholarship by Organic Formula Shop is a student scholarship designed to support a single Mom or a Dad. Our Scholarship gives college students a chance to earn cash towards their education. We’re supporting the scholarship winners with $2000 each to cover some of their costs as they pursue their degrees.

When can you apply?

To be eligible for this Scholarship, you must meet the requirements below. Please read the conditions carefully to ensure you meet eligibility before applying.

Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at - a 4-year, 2-year, vocational, or technical institution in the United States;
Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident;
Must be a single parent;
All fields of study and GPAs (grade point average) will be considered.

Scholarship application time frames

We grant two scholarships yearly and accept applications on a rolling basis. The application and selection timelines are as follows:

Fall Semester Scholarship 2024

Application deadline: June 30th, 2024
Interviews with finalists: The beginning of July
Announcement of the Winners: End of July
Scholarship reward: USD 2000

Spring Semester Scholarship 2024/2025

Application deadline: December 31st, 2024
Interviews with finalists: The beginning of January
Announcement of the Winners: End of January
Scholarship reward: USD 2000

How to apply:

Please fill out your personal information via the below button. We ask you to include an essay in which you explain to us why we should pick you for our Scholarship. Some important pillars we take along in our assessment are motivation and impact. We look at aspects like:

What motivates you to complete your degree?
How do you make ends meet financially?
What do you find most challenging about being a student and a single parent?
How will this Scholarship positively impact your family?
What are your aspirations and dreams?
How do you manage quality time with your little one?

When is the scholarship application deadline?

We grant 2 scholarships per year and accept applications on a rolling basis. Check our Scholarship page here for all the up-to-date info.

Who's dealing with the applications?

All applications will be screened by Bold.org. This is a donor
platform who has a dedicated donor team to manage the scholarship application
process. Based on the selection criteria, Bold.org will review all of applications to narrow down a list of finalists. If you have any question, please contact Bold.org and mention the Organic Formula Shop Single Parent Scholarship.

How will application information be used?

Confidentiality is important to us. We (or Bold.org) will never disclose or distribute any information you submit as part of your application, and will only use your contact information to get in touch if we need to discuss your application. We would like to publish (part of) your story on our website so that we can continue to inspire others with similar storie. If you would like to leave certain parts out (because maybe they are too personal) this is no problem. You can specify which parts and we can review this together. We will always ask you to review anything we post or publish about you.

What is the scholarship prize?

The Scholarships are USD $ 2000,- each.

How will the scholarship prize be paid?

This depends on the school’s requirements, but in most cases a check will be sent to the Scholarship winner’s College institution in their name and in the name of their institution. The winner(s) will never receive the price in cash.

How will my application be verified?

The winner will be required to provide a copy of their college transcript as proof of their enrollment, before the scholarship is awarded. This process will be managed for us by Bold.org
