Description
HiPP German HA 1 COMBIOTIK is a hydrolyzed, hypoallergenic infant formula for newborns and babies from birth. It can be used as the sole source of nutrition or alongside breastfeeding.
HiPP HA1 is made from proteins broken down by 86 to 87% to minimize their allergenic impact, which makes it suitable for infants with cow's milk protein sensitivity. The recipe contains galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS, a prebiotic fiber) and the natural culture Lactobacillus fermentum hereditum®, originally obtained from breast milk, working together to support a healthy gut and strengthen a developing immune system. DHA and ARA, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, promote healthy brain and eye development. And because lactose is the main carbohydrate, this formula stays close to breast milk and keeps digestion easy, with no added sugar, no corn syrup, and no soy.
This gentle hypoallergenic formula is crafted in Germany to the most stringent European quality standards and comes in a 600 g (21.2 oz) box with a resealable inner bag. Labeling is German, which is why we translated the preparation instructions, feeding chart, and ingredient info into English here.
This formula is rated 4.8 stars by parents in our store. "Baby loves it, definitely better than US brands."

What Makes This Formula Special
In a standard formula the milk proteins stay whole, and for a sensitive newborn those large proteins can be hard work. In HiPP hydrolyzed Stage 1 they arrive already split into small fragments, so part of the digestion is done before the first sip. A young immune system is also far less likely to treat these tiny pieces as a problem than whole, intact proteins. That can mean less gas, fewer tears, and calmer feeds.
The heart of the recipe is COMBIOTIK: the prebiotic fibers feed the good bacteria already in your baby's gut, while the probiotic culture adds to them, and a settled gut supports a developing immune system too --- a connection HiPP has been researching for more than 25 years. HiPP also uses Metafolin® instead of synthetic folic acid, a natural premium folate the body can use right away. HiPP HA1 carries the DLG allergen-management seal, developed with the German Allergy and Asthma Association: independent confirmation that allergens are strictly controlled at every step of production, one less thing for allergy-aware families to worry about.
Breaking the protein down is extra processing, so the finished formula does not carry the EU Organic seal. The other ingredients still come from high quality, organic, non-GMO sources, and every batch runs through the same strict HiPP factory checks as the organic lines.
Please note: this is a specialty formula, not a medical treatment for a confirmed or suspected cow's milk protein allergy. Talk to your pediatrician before you start or switch. You can find all our gentle options on our specialty formulas for sensitive tummies page.
Starting from the very first bottle? HiPP German PRE HA mirrors breast milk most closely and flows naturally into HA 1. At 6 months, continue with HiPP German HA Stage 2. The same gentle recipe also comes as HiPP Dutch HA Stage 1 in a large 800 g can, usually the better value per gram.
Safety, Quality and Animal Welfare
Every batch goes through up to 260 safety checks before it leaves quarantine, from raw materials to finished powder, in HiPP's climate-neutral plant. HiPP tests far more residues than the law requires and only packs a batch if it meets HiPP's own tighter limits.
EU baby formula follows strict European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) rules, including required DHA, staged iron by age, and no corn syrup solids. Those rules are a higher bar than FDA formula standards and apply to all EU and UK formulas we carry. Read more in our EU vs US formula guide.
Why Parents Trust HiPP German HA 1

In our reviews, parents keep coming back to the smooth mix, the mild taste their babies accept without a fight, and the relief of feeds that finally keep them calm.

How to make a bottle

- Wash your hands and sterilize the bottle, teat, and cap before use.
