Description
HiPP Dutch HA Stage 1 COMBIOTIK is a hydrolyzed, hypoallergenic infant formula for newborns and babies from birth onward. It can be used as the sole source of nutrition or together with breastfeeding, and from 6 months you simply move up to Stage 2.
When a newborn is gassy, fussy, or spitting up after almost every bottle, feeding stops being the calm moment it should be. This formula is made for exactly that stage. The protein is broken down by 86 to 87% into much smaller pieces, which significantly aids in comfortable digestion for babies with mild sensitivities. Part of the digestive work is done before the bottle is even mixed, so it sits easier with newborns who show signs of cow's milk protein sensitivity. This proactive, gentle approach to feeding makes it a favorite among informed parents.
Prebiotics and probiotics look after the tummy, DHA and ARA support brain and eyesight, and the taste stays mild and clean. This clean formula contains no added sugar, corn syrup, or soy.
HiPP Hydrolyzed Dutch Formula Stage 1 is crafted in Germany for the Dutch market and held to the most stringent European quality standards, ensuring maximum safety and nutritional integrity. It comes in an 800 g (28.2 oz) can with Dutch and French labeling, which is why we translated the preparation instructions, feeding chart, and ingredient info into English here.
This formula is rated 4.9 stars by parents in our store, and many call it the switch that finally worked. "Switching to HiPP HA 1 gave our baby a lot of relief with reflux." "My little guy loves this formula. Much better than the US brands and my baby doesn't have stomach issues."

What Makes This Formula Special
In a standard formula the milk proteins stay whole, and some newborns find those larger proteins hard to break down. Hydrolysis splits them into smaller pieces first. That can mean less gas, less fussing, and easier-to-pass stools. A young immune system is also less likely to react to small fragments than to large, intact proteins.
Beyond the gentle protein structure, HiPP Dutch HA Stage 1 contains essential nutrients that mirror the benefits of breast milk. The heart of the recipe is COMBIOTIK, HiPP's synbiotic combination of prebiotics and probiotics working together for a healthy gut from day one. The prebiotic fibers feed the good bacteria already in your baby's gut, and the probiotic culture L. fermentum, originally found in breast milk, adds to them. A settled gut supports immunity too. HiPP also uses Metafolin® instead of synthetic folic acid. It is a natural premium folate, the same form found in breast milk. Folic acid has to be converted by the body first, while Metafolin® is directly available, so every baby can use it right away.
Breaking the protein down is extra processing, so the finished formula does not carry the EU Organic seal. The other ingredients still come from high quality, organic, non-GMO sources, and every batch runs through exactly the same HiPP factory checks as the organic lines. HiPP Dutch HA Stage 1 gives every baby a gentle start in life.
Please note: this is a specialty formula, not a medical treatment for a confirmed or suspected cow's milk protein allergy. Talk to your pediatrician before you start or switch. You can find all our gentle options on our specialty formulas for sensitive tummies page.
The same hydrolyzed recipe also comes as HiPP German HA Stage 1 in a smaller pack; this Dutch can is larger and usually the better value per gram. At 6 months, continue with HiPP Dutch HA Stage 2. If hydrolyzed protein turns out not to be needed, HiPP Dutch Stage 1 is the regular organic starting option.
Safety, Quality and Animal Welfare
Every batch goes through up to 260 safety checks before it leaves quarantine, from raw materials to finished powder. HiPP screens far more residues than the law requires and only packs a batch if it meets HiPP's own tighter limits, and the milk comes from the same long standing dairy partners HiPP works with across its range.
EU baby formula follows strict European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) rules, including required DHA, staged iron by age, and no corn syrup solids. Those rules are a higher bar than FDA formula standards and apply to all EU and UK formulas we carry. Read more in our EU vs US formula guide.
Why Parents Trust HiPP Dutch HA Stage 1
We frequently hear that this is the bottle that finally stayed down. Parents mention less reflux than with typical US "gentle" formulas, calmer stools, and babies who still finish the feed. One mother told us: "My daughter has been dealing with low weight gain and inflamed bowel from US formulas. After introducing HA COMBIOTIK, she started gaining weight." It also mixes smoothly, which matters, especially at 3 a.m.

How to make a bottle

Preparation for HiPP HA powdered formulas:
- Wash your hands and sterilize the bottle, teat, and ring. Boil them in water for 10 minutes.
- Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool. Do not pour boiling water directly onto the powder, as this may damage the natural lactic acid cultures.
- Pour the correct amount of cooled boiled water into the sterilized bottle (see feeding chart).
- Add the correct number of leveled scoops using only the scoop provided (1 scoop per 30ml water). Scoop size: 4.4g.
- Close the bottle and shake vigorously until the powder is fully dissolved.
- Cool to drinking temperature, approximately 37°C (98°F). Test on the inside of your wrist before feeding.
Important Information:
- Only use the scoop provided in the pack.
- Do not make feeds weaker or stronger than indicated by adding extra water/scoops, and do not add anything else to the milk.
- Always freshly prepare formula and do not prepare in advance. Use immediately, and discard leftovers at the end of the feed.
- Do not heat a bottle in a microwave as hot spots may occur, which could cause scalding.
- All opened formula should be used within 21 days. Never use formula beyond its expiration date. The expiration date on the formula box/tin is listed according to European standard: day/month/year
- Avoid storing in areas of high heat or humidity.
